In Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, asanas (postures) are linked one to the next in a sequence that strengthens the body, stirs internal heat, and promotes the awakening of the mind along the core line of the body. Proper alignment in the postures as well as attention to ujjayi pranayama (breath), bandas (locks), and dristi (gaze), focus the mind and act as a conduit for the body’s subtler energies.
In All Levels/Level 1 classes, we will concentrate primarily on ujjayi pranayama, Suryanamaskar A, and the Standing Postures. In Level 2, we will begin to add Suryanamaskar B, the initial Seated Postures of the Primary Series, and Finishing Postures, with continued cultivation of ujjayi pranayama, bandas, and dristi.
